As a nurse, I understood the medical language. But understanding it and living it are two very different things. I grieved my body and the way I once felt at home in it. I still wrestle with body image. I still wonder how hormone therapy may affect my ability to conceive one day. Before every scan, I hold my breath and pray there is not a new lesion waiting to change everything again. Cancer does not simply end when treatment ends. Survivorship carries its own weight. Fear and gratitude exist side by side. My faith in God has been my anchor through all of it. On nights when anxiety is loud and the future feels fragile, He has been steady. I would not have made it through without Him carrying me when I was too exhausted to carry myself. I am still fearful at times. But I still hope. I keep going. I am deeply thankful that the opportunity to keep going is still there. If you are young and walking this road, you are not alone. Your fears are valid. Your grief is real. Even in the uncertainty, there is still room for hope. Understanding Breast Cancer Looking for answers? Look no further. About Breast Cancer Early Detection Treatment Did You Know? Although it’s rare, men can also get breast cancer . 1 out of every 100 breast cancers diagnosed in the United States is found in a man. The most common types are invasive ductal carcinoma and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), which is the presence of abnormal cells inside the lining of the ducts in the breast and doesn’t spread to other tissues in the breast. DCIS is considered the earliest form of breast cancer. The most common symptoms of breast cancer in men are: A lump or swelling in the breast. Redness or flaky skin in the breast. Irritation or dimpling of breast skin. Nipple discharge. Pulling in of the nipple or pain in the nipple area.
